Gerald Ford was the Vice President of the United States, serving from
1973 to 1974, and the 38th President of the United States serving from
1974 to 1977. As the House Minority Leader, Ford was appointed Vice
President following the resignation of Spiro T. Agnew, who pleaded no
contest to tax evasion. Ford then went on to become President on this
day in 1974 following the resignation of Richard M. Nixon. To this day,
Gerald Ford remains the only President of the United States who was
never elected President nor Vice-President by the Electoral College.
