Guam

Guam, a territory of the United States, is the largest island in Micronesia and is located in the northwestern section of the Pacific Ocean. It is west of the International Date Line and, since the sun shines eastward over the Pacific, it is the first American territory touched by the sun’s early morning rays. The unofficial but frequently used territorial slogan of Guam is "Where America's Day Begins". The capital city of Guam is Hagåtña. The inhabitants of Guam are called Guamanians, and they are American citizens by birth.

Queen Isabella I

Christopher Columbus asked King Ferdinand & Queen Isabella of Spain to sponsor his voyage of exploration. Queen Isabella refused Columbus at first but eventually agreed to sponsor the voyage. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella gave Columbus three ships, a crew of about ninety men, and some money. The voyage led to the opening of the New World and to the establishment of Spain as the first global power which dominated Europe and much of the world for more than a century. Miller LIght Beer

Miller Lite was essentially the first mainstream light beer, and was introduced nationally in 1975. Miller Lite's long-running "Tastes Great!...Less Filling!" advertising campaign was ranked by Advertising Age magazine as the eighth best advertising campaign in history. In the prime of the campaign, television commercials typically portrayed a Lite Beer drinker noting its great taste followed by another who observed that it was less filling. As the series of commercials went on, it began featuring high profile athletes and celebrities.

LIef Erickson

Leif Erikson was an Icelandic explorer and is generally believed to be the first European to reach North America, some 500 years before Christopher Columbus. Leif Eriksson was the son of Erik the Red, founder of the first European settlement on what is now called Greenland. In the early 1960s, the discovery of the ruins of a Viking settlement in Newfoundland lent further weight to accounts of Eriksson’s voyage, and in 1964 the United States Congress authorized President Lyndon Johnson to proclaim each October 9 as Leif Eriksson Day.

What Does the Term LTE Stand For?

When describing cellular networks, you commonly hear the terms 3G, 4G, and LTE. But what does LTE stand for? LTE stands for “Long Term Evolution”, and is a 4G wireless broadband standard. It is the fastest wireless network for smartphones and mobile devices. LTE offers higher bandwidth, meaning greater connection speeds, and better underlying technology for voice calls (VoIP) and multimedia streaming. LTE is a registered trademark owned by ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) for wireless data communications technology.

Gatorade Sports Drink

Gatorade was first developed in 1965 by researchers at the University of Florida, following a request from Florida Gators football head coach Ray Graves. Its name was derived from the collective nickname of the university's athletic teams, the Florida Gators. The football team credited Gatorade as having contributed to their first Orange Bowl win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in 1967, at which point the drink gained traction within the athletic community. Yellow Jackets coach Bobby Dodd, when asked why his team lost, replied: "We didn't have Gatorade. That made the difference."

ALF

ALF is an television sitcom that aired on NBC from 1986, to 1990. ALF (an acronym for Alien Life Form) is sarcastic alien from the planet Melmac who follows an amateur radio signal to Earth and crash-lands into the garage of the suburban middle-class Tanner family. The voice of ALF, Paul Fusco, also operated the ALF puppet—most of the time. ALF appeared on a number of other popular television shows, popping up on shows such as Matlock, Blossom, and Hollywood Squares, among others. On August 1, 2018, it was announced that Warner Bros. will produce an ALF Reboot.

SNL: Alec Baldwin

On this day in 1975, Saturday Night Live (SNL), made its debut on NBC. It would go on to become the longest-running, highest-rated show on late-night television. Each episode is hosted by a celebrity guest, who usually delivers an opening monologue and performs in sketches with the cast. Actor Alec Baldwin holds the record for most times hosting, having performed the duty on seventeen different occasions since 1990; Baldwin took the record from actor Steve Martin who has hosted fifteen times since 1976. Goodman ranks third on the all-time "SNL" hosting list with 13 episodes.

SNL: Saturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live is still going strong after 43 years, and it continues to transcend generation after generation. NBC's Saturday Night Live has had its share of famous catchphrases over its run, however “That’s Hot!” is not one of them. Paris Hilton trademarked that famous catchphrase at the peak of her fame. She eventually ended up in a lawsuit against Hallmark, who used it on their greeting cards in 2007, although they claimed the cards were safe under the fair-use law.

Al Gore

On this day in 2007, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to increase public knowledge about man-made climate change. In 2006, Gore had starred in the Academy Award-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth. His documentary on climate change, nabbed an Academy Award for best documentary. (Although the Oscar actually went to director Davis Guggenheim, Gore gave an acceptance speech.) Gore's print version of An Inconvenient Truth won the Grammy for best spoken-word album, thanks to its release as an audio book.

Tina Turner

Anna Mae Bullock is better known by her stage name Tina Turner. She rose to fame in the 1960s by singing and performing with then-husband Ike Turner. Tina Turner later enjoying an international solo career with hits like " What's Love Got to Do with It," "Better Be Good to Me," and "Private Dancer." One of the world's best-selling artists of all time, she has been referred to as The Queen of Rock 'n' Roll and has sold more than 200 million albums and singles worldwide to date. According to Guinness World Records, Turner has sold more concert tickets than any other solo performer in history.
